Our Approach to Ingredients

Every Reef Safe product uses zinc oxide as the sole active UV filter — a naturally occurring mineral that sits on the skin's surface to physically block UV radiation. We don't use any chemical UV filters, synthetic absorbers, or the 12 chemical ingredients that the US FDA has flagged for further safety review.

Our zinc oxide is ZinClear® XP, manufactured by Advance ZincTek (ASX: ANO) in Queensland, Australia. It's pharmaceutical-grade, non-nano (200–700nm particle size), GMP manufactured, and ECOCERT COSMOS approved.

TGA Registration

ReefSafe sunscreens are registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) as listed medicines. AUST L registration means each product has met the Therapeutic Goods Administration's requirements for safety, quality, and efficacy.

Our manufacturer, VeganicSKN, holds TGA Manufacturing Licence MI-2022-LI-08123-1 and is registered with the US FDA (Establishment ID: 3024609429).

What We Don't Use

Reef Safe products are formulated without: chemical UV filters (oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, and others), parabens, and synthetic fragrances.

Safety Information

• For external use only
• Avoid contact with eyes — if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water
• Do not apply to broken or irritated skin
• If irritation develops, discontinue use
• Keep out of reach of children (product is safe for use on children, but should be applied by an adult)
• Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the tube
• Shelf life: 3 years from date of manufacture

The FDA Position on UV Filters

In September 2021, the US FDA published its comprehensive sunscreen safety review. Of the 16 commonly used UV filters, only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide were recognised as Generally Recognised As Safe and Effective (GRASE). The remaining 12 chemical UV filters were classified as requiring further safety data. Reef Safe uses only zinc oxide — the gold standard.
